Cyber Assistant Secretary and Air Force General testify at House Subcommittee.
Department of Defense (DoD) cyber officials recently testified before the House Subcommittee on Cyber, Information Technologies, and Innovation. They told committee members that the funding proposed in the 2025 budget was necessary to curb the growing threat of governmental cyber attacks.
Ashley Manning, the acting assistant secretary for cyber policy, shared that Russia, China, and Iran are all working to digitally disrupt water and electricity both in the U.S. and in its allied countries, such as Ukraine and Israel. Assistant Secretary Manning told committee members that funding for a talented workforce is necessary to implement the cyber strategy required to counter these threats.
Air Force General Timothy Haugh, commander of U.S. Cyber Command, agreed, adding that China currently poses the greatest challenges to U.S. cybersecurity. General Haugh said the Asian superpower regularly showcases “advanced cyber capabilities, state-sponsored cyber operations around the globe, and a strategic focus on leveraging cyberspace for military, economic, and political purposes.”
